Our Story
Maureen says:
We met at a nautical festival in St. Clair Shores, Michigan called the Venetian Festival, which is held annually in August along a stretch of shorefront called the “Nautical Mile.”  I had just walked into Waves Restaurant with some friends and ordered a drink when a nervous guy (with beautiful eyes) walked over to me and said “Do you mind if I hang out with you guys for a while?”  He then proceeded to say, “I just left Waves…have you ever been there?”  I said, “We ARE at Wave’s!!!”  His face turned bright red (He reveals now that he thought that was it…that I would laugh at him and walk away.)  I thought it was cute…I laughed…and I stayed.  Three years later I am still here and still laughing!

Our first date, a few far too long days later, lasted 9 hours!  We went to the Michigan State Fair.  He wined and dined me at a seafood restaurant on the water, and then we sat by the lake and talked for hours.  That spot by the lake became our spot and we have visited it often since then.

Mike took me completely by surprise on Valentines Day, 2002.  I should have known the gig was up the day before when he wanted to go shopping for a new shirt and tie (Mike hates to shop!).  He made reservations at a charming French restaurant in Detroit and picked me up early for what he termed a “romantic walk by the lake.”  He took me to our special spot on Lake St. Clair, asked me to sit down and, tears welling, said, “Usually on Valentines Day a guy would ask his girl to be his Valentine…but today I want to ask you to be my wife.”   Falling to one knee, he proceeded, “ Will you marry me?”  I began to cry, and don’t remember exactly what I replied (I’m sure he does), but it must have been, “Yes!”  Later, at the French restaurant, as the waiter uncorked the champagne, a women at a nearby table whispered to her husband, “I think he is going to ask her!”  I was so excited to share the news with anyone, I wanted to jump up and proclaim, “He already did!”

Mike says:
I met Moe on August 12, 1999 at Waves Restuarant during Venetian week in St. Clair Shores.  I went with a few of my buddies thinking it would be a normal night.  After spending a few hours outside in the tent we went inside the bar.  That is when I saw Moe walk in.  She was beautiful.  I was with Jimmy (Mr. Shy Guy) and told him that I was going to talk to her.  Jimmy did not believe that I would do it.  But I did.  We ended up talking and got to know a little about each other.  I knew then that she was something special.

One of our first dates was at the State Fair.  After the fair we drove down Jefferson in Grosse Pointe and sat by the lake.  That was the very same spot I took Moe on Valentine's Day and asked her to marry me.  She said "YES"!  Moe had no idea that I was going to ask her.  So I thought the best way to keep it a secret was to not tell anyone.  But I did tell my parents a week before Valentine's day.  During that week my Mom kept calling and asking if Moe knows.  There were a couple of times when I was on the phone with my Mom and Moe would be standing right next to me while she would ask "Do you think Moe knows?"  I would calmly say "no."  After I would get off the phone, Moe would ask, "What did your Mom have to say?"  I would have to make something up.
Because of Moe, she makes me feel like one of the luckiest guys in the world.
I hope everyone shows up at the wedding because we are going to have a great time.
